Establish a Scholarship

To discuss the establishment of a scholarship, please call the office of institutional advancement at (716) 829-8458.

At D'Youville University, students are our first priority. During their time here, we are committed to helping them through their intellectual, spiritual and personal journeys. The university experience today offers students so much more than classrooms, mid-term exams, papers and a degree. An education at D’Youville University is geared toward expanding the mind and enriching the spirit. By further harnessing positive energy and enthusiasm, the university can become the venue for exposing students to life-changing moments.

D’Youville spends more than $16 million each year in financial aid to students. These dollars provide much needed assistance to our students. To effectively offset the expense of tuition, scholarships have been created through the generosity of alumni and friends. This is why the role of alumni, family members and friends is particularly important. What more beautiful and effective way to say "thank you" for the opportunities D’Youville University has created in your life or in the life of a loved one than to return the favor by affording others those wonderful opportunities. More than one hundred endowed scholarships have been established through such benevolence. The awards made from these scholarship funds assist students in meeting their tuition obligations. More often than not, these gifts are responsible for making the dream of a university degree, as well as all its possibilities, a reality for many deserving scholars.

How to Establish an Endowed Scholarship

In order to endow a scholarship, a minimum gift of $50,000 is required, payable over a five-year period. In accordance with the financial policy of D’Youville, only interest earned is paid out to assist worthy scholars. The principal remains intact in perpetuity. You can choose the name of your scholarship and also assist in the establishment of the criteria for awarding the scholarship.

Your legacy gift of $50,000 to establish an endowed scholarship is truly an investment in D’Youville University that will pay dividends far into the future and will assist numerous students in accomplishing their goal of a D'Youville education. Be assured that the effects of your generosity are far more reaching than you could ever imagine.

How to Establish a Non-Endowed Award

It is also possible to establish smaller, short-term scholarships in order to provide assistance to students. There is a minimum gift of $25,000 required, payable over a five-year period. They can be granted to an individual recipient or divided among several recipients. Your gift of $5,000 each year for five years provides the opportunity to name a scholarship for a finite period of time. Once the principal is depleted, the award ends. The donor may participate in the establishment of the award criteria.
